Abstract

Social work is a professional activity based on principles, values and ethics,
knowledge, skills, and systematic methods to help individuals, families, groups,
and communities to increase and restore their social functional capacity. Changes
in lifestyle, family management, changes in the economic status of individuals and
families, and other factors contributed to various social issues such as domestic
violence, child abuse, and scrounging. A competent social worker is required to
address these complex and challenging social issues. It also requires a holistic
approach involving the public, private and non-governmental organizations.
Standardization of social work education curriculum at the tertiary institution,
knowledge and career development of skills-based social work, establishment of
a professional regulatory body, and the formulation of legislation related to the
Social Work profession are a catalyst for the production of competent social
workers. Those initiatives meet stakeholders' expectations of the community's wellbeing, which aligns with the government's commitment. This conceptual paper
discusses specific legislation related to the social work profession towards
delivering professional and quality social work services to the community.
