Abstract

Domestic violence is a severe social problem which affects one's well-being. The Royal Malaysian Police statistics show that the number of reported cases is increasing, indicating that this matter needs attention. Thus, a pilot study was conducted to find out the public's perception of domestic violence. This study uses a quantitative design through a survey method. This study was conducted in Terengganu through a simple random sampling technique. A total of 65 sample people were selected to be respondents for the pilot study, while a total of 1,239 respondents from all over Malaysia were involved in the actual study. The collected questionnaires were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software version 25 and descriptive analysis. The study found that the community has a high perception of domestic violence. However, the community lacks knowledge about the Domestic Violence Act. Therefore, without delay, a framework that focuses on increasing community awareness and understanding of domestic violence needs to be developed for the well-being of every layer of society in the community.
